Reproductive Rights and Bodily Autonomy

We fully endorse a woman’s right to make choices regarding her own body.

We recognize that women are individual human beings with the right to bodily autonomy, just as any other person, and that each individual must make the best decisions regarding their life and health for themselves. We believe that healthcare decisions are personal and private matters, best left to patients and their chosen healthcare professionals.

Just as a free society cannot force any individual to donate an organ or give blood, we must also acknowledge the fact that we cannot demand an individual sacrifice their body, in any way, for the sake of another. We must recognize the fact that pregnancy presents certain potential risks to health and that a woman who chooses to carry a pregnancy to term is, indeed, taking on those risks to her body, her health, and potentially, her life.

We hold it as unconstitutional for any form of government to demand that any American be forced into potentially life-threatening situations against their will. We maintain that life threatening situations are not exclusive to one’s physical well-being merely, but also include material and psychological well-being.

We acknowledge that a fetus is a living organism with the potential to become an autonomous human being. However, the undeniable fact that the fetus is solely dependent upon a host and cannot sustain its own life without the host means it does not have bodily autonomy. We assert that it is only biologically independent, autonomous human beings who have a claim to rights, including the inalienable right to life.
We maintain that the capacity for biologically independent life, the ability to self-generate one’s own life support functions, is a fundamental criterion of bodily individuation and constitutes a necessary condition for the attainment of human personhood. We recognize that such biologic viability outside of the womb is not reached until—roughly—the end of the second trimester, and that this point in development, and in time, forms the proper demarcation between moral permissibility and impermissibility of abortion.

Despite this moral fact, the woman’s life – as the preexisting biological individual, with a fully developed rational faculty – is primary throughout ALL stages of her pregnancy and irrespective of the development of the fetus.

We further assert that since our platform is about the consistent application of individual rights we would be remiss in denying those who oppose abortion the right to not support. In practical application this means that a pregnant woman, as a responsible human individual, an adult, is as responsible to finance her abortion as she is to finance her child—or to do so with the voluntary assistance of other private individuals, including and especially the father, who choose to help. The government at any and all levels, whether federal or state, must be legally debarred from funding abortion and from coercing taxpayers to financially support it.

Additionally, we will always support a woman’s choice to seek and utilize any birth control method of her choosing and bar government or voters from banning the use of these products at all levels, state, local and federal.
